Since before we got engaged, my husband and I knew our honeymoon had to be in Thailand. As two of the biggest pad thai fans in New York City, we could not wait to relax and explore our bucket-list destination. And since we were finally going, we wanted the journey to feel just as special as the destination.
After looking at way too many reviews, we landed on Singapore Airlines business class — which also happened to be the world’s longest flight, at just over 19 hours. The idea of spending that long in the air, two days after our wedding, was both thrilling and terrifying.
Nineteen hours later, I can confidently say it exceeded even our high expectations. The service, food, comfort, and little details turned what could have been a grueling travel day into a highlight of our honeymoon. Here’s what the experience was really like, and whether I think it’s worth the splurge.
The Cabin: Comfort Like a Hotel Room
The VIP feeling started before we even sat down. We had our own dedicated boarding lane, and I don’t think I’ve ever walked onto a plane that calmly or quickly.
The first thing I noticed was how much space we had. The online photos we saw didn't do it justice. We had a ton of privacy in two "middle" seats, and the chair felt as comfortable as my bed. There was a ton of leg room, storage, and thoughtful lighting, plus a seat that converted into a fully flat bed when I was ready to sleep.
Little details went a long way — slippers, high-quality headphones, lotions, and a well-designed amenity kit (plus lots of extras in the shockingly nice bathrooms). It made settling in for 19 hours feel like a breeze.
The Food: Better Than a Lot of Restaurants on the Ground
I expected the food to be “pretty good for a plane.” Instead, it ended up being one of the highlights of the flight. The menus were surprisingly ambitious, with regional dishes, seafood options, and multi-course meals that felt more like a restaurant than an airline.
I was skeptical of things like shrimp on a plane, but everything tasted fresh and was beautifully plated. We could essentially build our own three-course meals whenever we wanted, and there were constant snacks and refills.
We also loved that there were dishes inspired by different parts of the world — a fun way to ease into all the incredible food we’d be eating in Thailand. And of course, there was no shortage of champagne to toast the end of wedding planning.
The Service & Entertainment: Warm, Personal, and Actually Fun
Singapore Airlines’ service reputation is legendary, and it completely lived up to the hype. Our flight attendants were kind, attentive, and were somehow always there when we needed something, without hovering.
When they found out it was our honeymoon, they surprised us with the sweetest congratulatory gift and note, which was one of those small gestures that sticks with you.
The built-in entertainment system itself was great — tons of movies, shows, and music, but we ended up doing our own thing too. We had The White Lotus downloaded on our iPad, which was great timing since the season in Thailand had just aired.
The Lounge in Singapore: A Much-Needed Reset
By the time we landed in Singapore, I expected to feel completely drained. Instead, the airport itself gave us a second wind. It was easily the nicest airport I’ve ever seen, and we could have spent hours just wandering around.
Our priority was the famous Singapore Airlines lounge, and it absolutely delivered. Think: a massive buffet, quiet seating areas, barista-made drinks, and shower suites that felt closer to a boutique hotel than an airport.
We only had a few hours before our short flight to Bangkok, but we squeezed in a full meal (again) and some quiet time before the next leg of the trip.
Is It Worth the Splurge?
There’s no way around it: this is an expensive flight, especially in business class. But for a once-in-a-lifetime trip like a honeymoon — and on a 19-hour route — it made a huge difference.
Being able to actually sleep, eat well, move around comfortably, and arrive feeling excited instead of wrecked completely changed how we started our time in Thailand. The flight didn’t just get us there, it became a core memory of the trip.
We also saved 15% on the fare through FoundersCard , which really helped on such a big-ticket booking. On a long-haul business-class ticket, that discount goes a long way.
If you can swing it... whether by saving up, using points, or putting some of your wedding gifts toward the experience, I’d highly recommend Singapore Airlines business class for a milestone trip. It turns the longest flight in the world into something you’re actually sad to step off of.
